SaberCats DB Comes Away With Key INT Versus Colorado

SAN JOSE, Calif. (July 9, 2008) – San Jose SaberCats defensive back Marquis Floyd was named the ADT Defensive Player of the week, the Arena Football League announced today.

Floyd (6-2, 192, West Georgia) helped the SaberCats advance to their third consecutive American Conference championship game after registering 6.0 tackles, an interception and and a pass breakup in the 64-51 win over Colorado. Floyd stepped in front of a Crush receiver and picked off a John Dutton pass at the 3-yard line and returned it 47 yards for a score. It gave San Jose a 20-point lead and was the second interception returned for a touchdown in team playoff history.

Floyd was named to the First Team All-Arena squad for the first time in his career this season and was selected as the Defensive Player of the Month for May. He was also an AFL Defensive Player of the Year candidate, which was won by Chicago’s Dennison Robinson.

Grand Rapids Rampage QB James MacPherson was awarded the Offensive Player of the Week while FB/LB James Rue of Cleveland earned the Ironman of the Week accolade.
